Pulut Kuning and Beef Curry

Why...oh, why... do I always find meself volunteering for something I have absolute zero knowledge of. Pulut Kuning...yes, I have eaten plenty, but never bothered to learn to make it. To top it off, I do not own a steamer nor planning to get one.
So, thanks to the recipes abundance in the cyber world that I managed to produce, something I feel quite proud very first microwave Pulut Kuning!!

After Dr Who and a day............. was feeling down when Daniel Boys was voted out by The Lord in Any Dream Will Do. Not that I was rooting for him (my loyalty has always been with still my beating heart) but, I was kinda looking forward to the final showdown between Lee and Daniel....guess, I'll never get to see it.

Well.... enough said.....back to the recipe

Pulut Kuning and Beef Curry

1 kg glutinous rice, soaked overnight in water and 2 tbsp tumeric powder and 3 pcs asam gelugor.
Drain the rice and discard asam gelugor. Add in water, just enough to cover the top of the rice. Microwave on High for about 8 minutes.
You will notice that some part of the rice is slightly uncooked, it helps if you could stir the rice occasionally.
In a saucepan, gently simmer about 1/2 cup coconut milk. Season with salt.
Add the coconut milk into rice and microwave on Medium for a further 5 minutes.

Beef Curry

250 g beef, cut into bite-size chunk
3 shallots ( the shallots here are pretty big)
4 cloves garlic
1 knob ginger
3 tbsp curry powder, mix to a paste with some warm water
cloves, cinnamon bark and cardamon
2 cups coconut milk
1/2 cup coconut cream
Bay leaves, or curry leaves
tamarind juice, or tomato puree
Salt, to taste

Heat oil in a pan, add in sliced shallots, ginger and garlic. Add in cloves, cinnamon and cardamon. Fry until fragrant.
Add in curry powder and bay leaves. Let it simmer for abou 10 minutes.
Add in beef and coconut milk and tamarind juice. Reduce the heat and simmer for a further 10 minutes.
Add in coconut cream and season with salt. Cook for a further 5 minutes.
Serve with Pulut Kuning.
